The project replaces an old, and much-loved beach house that provided a holiday destination for many generations over many years. The brief was to design a new beach house that would be a permanent home for my client, and an escape for her 4 grown children and grandchildren who live in the city with little or no yards.
The focus was to create a space that could cope with a whole family and still work well just for one person. The design solution was a two storey house with the main living and master bedroom located on the ground floor and all the kids bedrooms and bathrooms located on the first floor.
With a brief for a house that was low maintenance and energy efficient, the material palette included recycled bricks and sheet metal cladding.
